Blue Phoenix - Limited Edition 1 of 5

The Phoenix, one of Jack Storms' most popular sculptures, was born by accident. While he was working on an Aerial, a studio mishap left the piece shattered on the studio floor. Instead of writing it off, Jack saw a new form in what was left. He shaped the broken crystal into the Phoenix, and it has been one of his most collected designs ever since.

The Blue Phoenix carries a colored glass plate beneath its core. The blue deepens and shifts with the light around it, reaching into every facet of the piece, so the sculpture never reads the same way twice as you move around it or as the light in the room changes.

Every Jack Storms sculpture starts at the core. He cuts, grinds, polishes and laminates the glass hundreds of times until the core is exactly what he set out to make, often following the Fibonacci sequence through the design. The core is then encased in optical crystal and sculpted to its final shape by hand on a cold working lathe. No heat is used at any point. Each sculpture takes six to twenty four weeks to complete and every piece is an original work of fine art. Materials: 32 percent optical lead crystal, optical crystal and dichroic glass.
